Welcome to Smile On Dentures
What are dentures?
Dentures are removable appliances to replace one or more missing teeth.
They are cost-effective and non-invasive, and rest on the upper or lower jaw bones, or both.
Our dentures are manufactured right here in our very own Smile On Lab on the Central Coast, Australia from high quality materials and provide a natural appearance.
Types of dentures:
Dentures can be classified into three main types:
1. Complete Dentures:
These are used when all teeth in either the upper or lower jaw are missing. Complete dentures can be further divided into:
Conventional Dentures: Placed in the mouth after the remaining teeth are removed and the tissues have healed, which may take several months.
Immediate Dentures: Inserted immediately after the removal of the remaining teeth. Adjustments are often needed as the tissues heal and shrink.
2. Implant Retained Dentures:
An implant-supported denture is a denture attached to dental implants, providing greater stability
Due to the nature of Complete Dentures they can have some movement in them, particularly complete lower dentures. Through having implants placed into the lower jaw we are able to get a more secure denture leading to greater satisfaction for the patient.
Whilst most patients are happy with traditional dentures, some prefer the improved stability and strength achieved through implant retained dentures.
3. Partial Dentures:
These are used when some natural teeth remain. They consist of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored plastic base, which is connected by a metal framework that holds the denture in place. Partial dentures not only fill in the spaces created by missing teeth but also prevent other teeth from changing position.
The main benefits of dentures include:
Improved Appearance:
Dentures fill in gaps left by missing teeth, restoring a natural-looking smile, and supporting facial structures to prevent a sunken appearance.
Enhanced Chewing and Eating:
By replacing missing teeth, dentures help individuals chew food more effectively, which is important for digestion and overall nutrition.
Improved Speech:
Missing teeth can affect pronunciation. Dentures help improve speech clarity by filling in gaps that can cause lisping or other speech issues.
Support for Facial Muscles:
Dentures provide support for the cheeks and lips, helping to maintain facial muscle tone and prevent sagging.
Boosted Self-Confidence:
With an improved appearance and the ability to speak and eat more normally, individuals often experience a significant boost in self-esteem and confidence.
Preventing Teeth Shifting:
In the case of partial dentures, they prevent the remaining natural teeth from shifting out of place, which can lead to bite problems and further dental issues.
Cost-Effective Solution:
Compared to other tooth replacement options like dental implants or bridges, dentures are often more affordable and accessible.
Customisable Fit:
Dentures are custom-made to fit the individual’s mouth, ensuring comfort and functionality.
Non-Invasive:
Getting dentures is a non-invasive process compared to surgical options like dental implants.
Easy Maintenance:
While dentures require regular cleaning and care, they are relatively easy to maintain with proper dental hygiene practices.
However, dentures often require a period of adjustment, regular maintenance, and sometimes need to be refitted due to changes in the mouth’s structure over time. If you are looking for a permanent solution for missing teeth, then find out more about Teeth On Implants.
